Managerial Skills
Raymond has significant training in developing transportation professionals. He has taught over 100 transportation professionals at Northwestern while mentored staff at both Pace and CTA. At Northwestern, he primarily taught Transportation Planning, Analysis, and Management as well as courses in chemistry, engineering design, and engineering law. At Pace and CTA, he helped develop a strong data science utilizing open source technologies to improve analysis and documentation of methods to enhance the efficiencies at both agencies.
In addition, he’s lead multiple projects at both agencies. Many projects have involved strategic planning to improve state of good repair in both vehicles (Pace) and data and reporting infrastructure (CTA). Furthermore, he’s been involved in improving efficiency at both agencies. At Pace, he freed up 30 hours of monthly labor by automating reports to over 220 municipal leaders. At CTA, he implemented a state of the art data science based data warehouse and data extraction process which improved efficiency and saved hundreds of hours a year. The data warehouse hosts more than 10 billion rows of agency data and utilizes a combination of custom ETL code to refresh data needed on a daily basis utilizing low cost AWS EC2 Spot instances. Furthermore, he’s lead special project efforts - a capital vehicle purchase plan at Pace with a new vehicle type without cutting service and a customer load dashboard for transit riders during the COVID pandemic at CTA.
At the Greater Dayton RTA, he has led multiple efforts to improve agency efficiency in the areas of security (both cyber and physical), claims and union management, as well as data and operational improvements. In the last year, he has successfully managed 20 terabytes of video and evidentiary storage from an ad hoc system prior, introduced data science, DevOps, and containerization to the organization to improve IT and data usage efficiency, as well as provided guidance on future transit technology implementation.
Technical skills
Raymond is proficient in many computer software skills, such as photo and image editing in Adobe Photoshop, general purpose language knowledge, shell scripting and cronjobs in Unix. In additional, he has hardware and networking experience, building computers from individual components and setting up small local networks, using a variety of standards. Lately, he’s been on a DevOps binge, utilizing containers, CI/CD, and learning Kubernetes and IT management to better delivery data and application solutions to the organization. This blending provides him with great flexibility on a variety of projects on a variety of platforms and systems.
